                    [sinopsis_editor] => Au début des années 1980, l'ATC (All terrain cycle/3-wheelers) fait son apparition dans les stadiums et sur les terrains de motocross américains. Mais il est très rapidement supplanté par l'ATV (All terrain vehicule/four-wheel), nettement plus stable, qui rencontre un immense succès auprès des simples amateurs de tout-terrain. Au milieu des années 1980, l'ATV débarque sur le Vieux Continent. A ses débuts, il ne rencontre qu'un succès d'estime, et ses ventes restent confidentielles. Il fini toutefois par trouver son public, et devient même un véritable phénomène de société. Désormais vendu chaque année à plusieurs milliers d'exemplaires dans l'hexagone, il occupe une place prépondérante sur la scène des sports mécaniques, et notamment sur le marché du véhicule de loisir, depuis l'apparitiondes quadricycles homologués. Les grands constructeurs japonais sont au rendez-vous : Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda et Yamaha se partagent le marché avec les spécialistes nord-américains, tel que Polaris, Bombardier, Artic Cat, ou encore Massey Ferguson. Quelques constructeurs taiwanais, dont Kymco (MSA) et Aeon - qui fabriquent également des modèles pour Aprilia, Daren et Fox -, ou encore chinois (Dinli, Hytrack, Minico, Acsud), tirent leur épingle du jeu sur un marché qui atteindra aujourd'hui plusieurs dizaines de milliers d'unités.
