My first visits to Eastbourne were in the mid 1950s. Bob Bunney with his gold bike, Gerry Bridson, Jim Heard etc. The Dugard family then the Kennetts. All are recalled in Norman Jacobs interesting history.
Seldom able to get to meetings now because of lack of transport and no suitable public transport. What a pity.

This is an excellent account of the history of Eastbourne speedway, founded in 1928 at Arlington and still going strong today - the only track in the country with such a long record of continuity. This book takes us through those pioneer days to the first entry of Eastbourne in to a league in 1938 and then on to its elevation to the Elite of the sport in the 1990s. It charts its good days and its bad days in an easy to read style and gives a real flavour of the sport in Sussex. There are statistics aplenty for those who like that sort of thing and for those that don't they can be easily skipped. Some of the photographs seem to be very rare, especially the pre-War ones; at least I have never seen them before! All in all a great read giving an extremely comprehensive picture of the history of one of the country's leading tracks.
