W H MONTGOMERY
With its striking red and cream livery, Belfast Corporation had one of the most attractive municipal fleets in the British Isles. Belfast was a stronghold of the Guy Arab and Daimler CV series of half-cab double-deckers. It also had the largest fleet of trolley buses outside London.
The Belfast fleet was unique in that most of the buses had bodies built by local coach builder Harkness. These superb bodies were built to a very high standard and made the Belfast fleet very distinctive.
The author, Billy Montgomery, has considerable inside knowledge of the subject as much of his working life was spent at Harkness coachworks. The Belfast fleet included 100 ex-London Transport Daimler CWA6 double-deckers which were rebodied by Harkness in 1955-56 but retained their London registrations.
This book by a lifelong bus enthusiast is the third in Colourpoint's Buses in Ulster series, taking the story of Belfast buses from their humble beginnings in the 1920s through to the front entrance AEC Swift and Daimler Fleetlines of the 1970s.
The bright livery of the Belfast fleet is vividly displayed in the 42 colour pictures which are included in this volume, along with 154 black and white photographs
