E i motori sono spesso bicilindrici, staccandosi così nettamente da una panoramica europea che vede la maggior parte dei modelli monocilindrici e di piccola cilindrata. Sono questi gli anni più gloriosi per molti storici marchi: BSA e Triumph, Norton e Royal Enfield, Matchless e Velocette. La concorrenza giapponese è ancora lontana, le moto inglesi dominano il mercato in maniera assoluta. Ma è proprio in questi anni che il gigante si rivela con i piedi di argilla. Forti della posizione dominante i costruttori restano ancorati sulle proprie produzioni senza effettuare investimenti in attrezzature o nello studio di nuovi modelli. Una scelta conservativa che metterà i vari marchi in difficoltà alla fine degli anni '60 per portare alla chiusura definitiva nei primi anni '70.
