The WTCC is one of only three full world titles awarded by the FIA. The series consistently features dynamic racing between compact mid-size 2000cc cars, direct descendents of models you can buy from showrooms!
This year seven major car manufacturers were represented: Alfa Romeo, BMW, Chevrolet, SEAT, Honda, Peugeot and Toyota. The championship took competitors to prestigious tracks at Brands Hatch, Magny Cours, Istanbul, Macau, Monza, Valencia, Brno, Oschersleben, Curtiba and Puebla.
Last year's winner Andy Priaulx racing for team BMW UK tussled at the top of the table to defend his title. In the end the 32-year old from Guernsey took a consecutive FIA Touring Car crown, as once again, driver and team worked in perfect harmony, always making the right move at the right moment. Only the chequered flag at the end second of the final race in Macau sanctioned Priaulxs world title, with a tiny one point gap from Jörg Müller.
Fully-packed grandstands witnessed a dramatic final stage. On the infamous Guia track the BMW cars won both the 19th and the 20th rounds of the season with Priaulx and Jörg Müller - who managed to finish runner up in the Drivers' classification. It was not an easy job for BMW though, as Alfa Romeo's Augusto Farfus, SEAT Sport's Yvan Müller and Fabrizio Giovanardi's Honda Accord made life extremely difficult for them. A crash at the start of the second race thwarted Farfus' hopes after a brilliant 5th place in Race 1.
Earlier in the season Yvan Müller saved SEAT's honour with two podium positions that propelled him to 4th in the championship, but he could not prevent BMW from beating the Spanish make for the Manufacturers' title. Plus, the 20 fastest laps during the competition were clocked by no less than 14 different drivers. Only Farfus, Tarquini, Alain Menu, Gené and Yvan Müller set more than one fastest lap during the season.
Featuring highlights from all 20 races across 10 rounds. On-board and trackside cameras witness the bumper-to-bonnet world class action. So sit back and enjoy one of the best racing review packages from 2006!
