ALFA ROMEO SPIDER 1966-1990
"Sportscars unfortunately are a dying breed. If you don't believe this, think back to 1966 when the Alfa Spider was introduced. In those days you could have chosen from a dozen roadsters in the 1500 to 2000cc class. They came from Italy, Germany, Britain and even Japan and if your memory needs jogging here are a few to start you thinking, Fiat 1600s Cabriolet, Glas 1700 GT Cabriolet, Lotus Super Seven and Elan, M GB, Morgan 4/4, Datsun 1600 Sports, and the Sunbeam Alpine. Besides Alfa Romeo only Fiat amongst the larger manufactUrers are producing this type of vehicle, happily on a smaller scale Morgan still tUrn out a handful of 4/4s a month and the Lotus Seven lives on as the Caterham Seven but neither of these can be imported into the USA without extensive modification. There is a case then for preserving these fast disappearing models, otherwise our children will never know the delight of driving in the open air. Brooklands Books are produced for the enthusiasts who carefully look after attractive cars, so that they can be enjoyed by futUre generations. Their aim is to stimulate interest in vehicles such as the Alfa Spider by making available the articles that were printed about them during their production life." R.M. Clarke
