The grid included top drivers Yvan Muller, James Thompson, Matt Neal and Anthony Reid - all in with a great chance of being crowned BTCC champion. After an epic journey of high risk manoeuvring and paint-scraping action, Muller and Thompson emerged as the final contenders for the title. The drama continued into the final race in front of a packed Donington Park crowd. Both drivers gave their all in a fight to the very end.

Mondello Park provided a dream start for defending champion James Thompson with a win in both rounds. Title contenders soon emerged from Thompson’s dust and an enthralling battle prevailed. Whilst Paul O’Neill was scrapping it out for third place with Matt Neal and Anthony Reid, last season’s top two, Thompson and Yvan Muller, had scores to settle out in front. As Vauxhall appeared in a strong position for a one-two-three finish there was everything to fight for, and they did! The skills of Thompson and Muller shone through yet again as a season of intense bumper-to-bumper action drew to a close and the two ensured another mouth-watering finish to the BTCC season.

After 14 long years competing in the British Touring Car Championship it was finally Matt's time to take the crown in front of a raucous crowd, delighted to see the 'People's Champion' on the top of the podium. The Honda driver becomes the first privateer to win the championship since 1991, and this official review tells the story of how he finally managed to pull it off!


This year's championship was certainly not cut and dry from the beginning - Dan Eaves became the first driver to win three races in one day at Thruxton, while 2003 champion Yvan Muller was nipping at Neal's heels throughout the season taking five victories, closely followed by the 2001 title holder Jason Plato. It was all to play for as they neared the final round at Brands Hatch and we donÍt miss a second!
