Le gare per vetture Gran Turismo hanno avuto un ruolo molto importante nella storia dell’autodromo di Monza. Negli anni Settanta, la Coppa Intereuropa era fra le manifestazioni più seguite. Poi, nel corso del tempo, l’interesse per le GT è andato scemando e solo nel 1992 è stato creato un Campionato Italiano GT, che ha segnato la rinascita di questa tipologia di gare con una crescita che da quel momento si è fatta esponenziale, con tutta una serie di campionati internazionali e con vetture e piloti di primissimo livello.
Questo volume ripercorre la complessa e articolata storia di questi Campionati, dall’immediato Dopoguerra ad oggi, con capitoli specifici – sempre introdotti da un inquadramento sui complessi aspetti regolamentari – dedicati ai Gruppi 3, 4 e 5 sino all’avvento delle Gruppo B, al “passaggio” del Giro d’Italia automobilistico a Monza, al BPR - FIA GT e Blancpain GT, al GT Open e ELMS WEC per arrivare al Creventic 24H Series e al DTM.
Vastissimo il repertorio iconografico, con oltre 400 immagini, per lo più inedite.
