The great age of tank warfare - of Blitzkrieg and battles between massed armoured formations - is over. The battlefield today is dominated not by armoured vehicles but vy air power, as the Gulf War demostrated.
But many examples of these armoured vehicles still remain, carefully restored and preserved for the delight of their owners and the public. his book presents a full-colour cavalcad of tanks, armoured cars, self-propellled guns, half-tracked vehicles and personnel carriers from the amies of Britain, the United Stares, Canada, Russia and Germany. Almost all of them have been restored to full running order and can be seen in museum or at public displays.
Practically all the major types of AFVs that have seen service during the eight decades of mechanised armoured warfare are illustrated, and John Blackman, who took most of the pistures in the book, provides a brief history of each type, placing it in its historical context.
