"Special-interest cars that are out of the ordinary and of unusual or special interest to automotive enthusiast. The most important element is that the cars are not ordinary", wrote RObert J. Gottlieb, well-known classic car editor for Motor Trend magazine in 1956.
The definition os a special-interest car hasn´t changed much since then. However, the numbers and types of cars that fit into that category have grown tremendously. Today, a special-interest car can be anything from a 1936 Buick Roadmaster to a 1973 Chevy Nova SS hatchback.
Marques of America takes a look at the special-interest field as it is perceived today. John A. Gunnell, author of more than 20 automotive books, reviewed dozens of different American marques and models, examined their unique features, and appraised their estimated values in the current collector car marketplace. As a result of this research, he present here a montage of the most remarkable automobiles from the Depression Era through the tumultuous ´60s.
Marques of America adapsts materials originally published in Old Cars Weekly and up-to-date princing information from Old Cars Price Gude and The Standard Catalog of American Cars.
