As the title battle raged, fans were delighted by the moto-winning exploits of MX1 stars like Tanel Leok, Ken de Dycker, Jonathan Barragan and Clement Desalle plus an emotional victory for Steve Ramon as he continued his recovery from a career-threatening injury.
Marvin Musquin, Gautier Paulin and Rui Goncalves set the early MX2 championship pace, but at the mid-way point of the season, Frenchman Musquin stepped it up a gear to become the first MX2 rider to dominate a weekend in 2009.
Just when it looked like Musquin had the title in his grasp, Goncalves put together two GP-winning weekends and took advantage of his rivals misfortune to set-up a thrilling championship showdown in Brazil. MX2 fans were also treated to class performance from the likes of British star Shaun Simpson, Steven Frossard, Anthony Boissiere and many more of the worlds greatest dirt bike riders.
