THe role in society of the motorcycle has changed dramatically since the late 1940s. From being the only means of transport for a grat many people, it hasbecome more of an exciting leisure toy and a sporting machines. In this respect trends in Britain have followed those witnessed in the United States at an earlier period. The general public´s desire for attractively priced motorcars, with their greater comfort and numerous other advantages, meant that motorcycles were gradually replaced as everydat forms of trasnport, to the extent that they were gradually replaced as everyday forms os transport, to the extent that they were owned mainly by people who retained a basic love and enthusiasm for two-wheelears.
