Suzuki is a company of amazing dynamism and resourcefulness, best known as the manufacturer of a large and very successful range of motorcycles from 50 cc to 1100 cc. Always in the forefront of modern development, one of their most amazing feats was the almost overnight change, through most of their almost overnight change, through most of their model range, from two-stroke power in response to American legisltion. Here then is the definitive history of Suzuki told in a most human and readble way.
Suzuki represents the autor´s idea of how the history of a modern motorcycle manufacturer should be presend and takes into accoint the manufacturer`s diverse activities so that the coverage is full comprehensive. With the assistance of the Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd. and Heron Suzuki GB Ltd. Jeff Clew was able to visit the parent company in Hamamatsu, Japan, to experience the atmosphere an gain information first-hand.
It is no coincidence that the publication of Suzuki occurs during the year when the Suzuki COmpany is celebrating its 60th Anniversary but what is remarkable is that, inthe production of motorcycles, so much ahs ocurred over a span of a motorcyclles, so much has ocurred over a span os a little under thirty-years, where as most other histories of a similar nature begin at the turn of the 200th Century.
Certainly this is a remarkable story of achievement, of which the manufacture of motorcycles represents the major part.

Aside from the odd four-stroke built in their formative years, it wasn't until 1976 that Suzuki manufactured such machines in significant numbers. Until then, it was two-strokes all the way. British designs soon followed, as did process of refinement, through the adoption of spray carburettor, the high tension magneto an...

  • THE SCOTT MOTORCYCLE YOWLING TWO STROKE

Scott motorcycles never fail to draw a crowd. Conceived 100 years ago by an unorthodox Yorkshireman who invented the vertical two-stroke twin and then placed his engine in an open frame machine, the Scott motorcycle was at the time viewed as beautiful, well-built and smooth - but certain eccentricities meant it was not always easy to ride. Jeff Clew's authoritative and fascinat...

For many, a motorcycle bought at the beginning of the 1950s was a first taste of the freedom offered by personal transport. Although postwar austerity was fading, money was still tight and new machines virtually unobtainable, but there were plenty of cheap prewar machines around and an ex-War Department motorcycle could be bought from one of the big city dealers on the never-ne...
