The fourth-generation Toyota Celica was launched in 1986 and was a complete departure from what had gone before. It was aerodynamic, it had pop-up headlights, and it was now front-wheel drive. It was available as a coupe or as a liftback, and had a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood, which drove the front wheels though a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission. A convertible version was launched in 1987., and then a four-wheel-drive 2.0-liter turbo version called the GT-Four was released in 1988. The fifth-generation model appeared in 1989 with a range of engines, starting with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder, then a 2.0-liter, then a 2.0-liter turbo and a 2.2-liter non-turbo four. Again, it had a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The sixth-generation car appeared in 1993, with conventional headlights.
