When France capitulated in June 1940, the Germans acquired a large stock of French half-tracks of which the Unic-Kegresse was the most numerous. In German service it was designated Leichter ZugKraftwagen U 304 (f). It was employed as a towing vehicles for the 3.7cm Pak 36 (shown), 5cm and 7,5cm anti-tank guns, or 7.5 cm light infantry guns (IW M-mh9201). Other French half-tracks in German service were the Unic TU I and Somua-Kegresse. From 1943-44 some of these French half-tracks were armoured and armed in smilar fashion to the Opel Maultier shown on page 3.
