aru en Février 2012 aux Éditions ETAI, « Saviem SG2 de mon père » nous dévoile le parcours du célèbre véhicule utilitaire Renault Super Goélette SG2.

Saviem, la filiale spécialisée dans la construction de camions de la marque Renault et premier conglomérat de constructeurs de véhicules industriels en France et en Europe, se charge de la fabrication du Saviem SG2 de 1965 à 1982 et de sa commercialisation partielle de 1971 à 1980.

Renault et Renault Véhicules Industriels participent également à la vente de la camionnette, respectivement de 1965 à 1970 et de 1980 à 1982. Renault Super Goélette SG2 succède à Renault Goélette (1947-1965) et connaît, au fil des années, plusieurs modifications et évolutions techniques avec le lancement d’une première variante à quatre roues motrices et une deuxième à traction avant baptisée Trafic SB2 en 1967.

Une autre version diesel apparait, en s’équipant d’un moteur Saviem-Alfa Romeo type 599, commercialisée en Italie sous le nom d’Alfa Romeo Saviem A155. À partir de 1970, la Super Goélette SG2 devient Saviem SG2 tandis que le Trafic SB2 a été rebaptisé Saviem SB2. En 1974, Saviem lance le SG3.

Over the past few years there has been a dramatic growth in the level of road transport preservation and in the number and variety of vehicles preserved. The number of vehicles that survive – buses, coaches and trolleybuses – is enormous and rarely a day goes past without some new discovery or acquisition. The vehicles that do survive cover the full range of Britain’s road passenger transport industry, from horse-drawn trams from the end of the 19th century through the early petrol0engined buses of the dawn of the internal combustion engine and the trolleybus era, to the rear-engined double-deckers and integrated designs of the modern age.

Whilst many of these vehicles are owned by individuals or small groups, increasingly there are a number of museums where vehicles – which can be owned by individuals or by the museum itself – are available for public inspection. Increasingly, also, there is the move towards the use of historic road vehicles in public service on ‘heritage’ routes, which – as with rallies – ensure that the classic bus designs are visible on the public highway. For the sixth edition, the book has been completely revised to take account of vehicle acquisitions and moves as well as the appearance of several new sites. As in previous years, the book also includes information on the various heritage bus operations. Along with a detailed listing of all vehicles preserved at the various sites, the book also provides the reader with information on location, opening dates and times, facilities, contact details and much else.

Compiled by the National Association of Road Transport Museums, Buses Restored 2005, like its companion volume on railways, provides the enthusiast with a detailed handbook to the museums throughout the British Isles. Just as Railways Restored has become the Bible of the railway preservation movement, so Buses Restored will be keenly sought by all road transport enthusiasts seeking a detailed and accessible guide to the subject.
