                    [sinopsis_editor] => Only 2500 copies of the ACO's new book have been printed. It marks the centenary of the Club and is a two-volume history in English in a slip-case. There's a lot of content covering the years before the great race was created , and regarding races on the Bugatti circuit, but the main focus of the books is, of course, the 24 Hours. Each race is covered in six pages, though, so there's not a great deal of room for in-depth race coverage. The results are thorough, but qualifying is not mentioned. There are sections on drivers cars, other types of racing at the circuit and a history of track changes. Side-profile artworks of every winning car are included. It's a great souvenir and could rise in value in the years to come.

Depuis l'origine de la course de l'Automobile Club de l'Ouest, ils sont ainsi une bonne quarantaine à être passés à l'acte et à avoir tenté l'aventure, un jour, dans les Hunaudières. Ce ne fut pas toujours facile et encore moins frappé du coin de la réussite. Mais le livre que vient d'écrire Michel Bonté, ancien reporter au “Maine-Libre” puis à “Le Mans Racing”, a le mérite de retracer cette saga mancelle de tous les pilotes sarthois, sans tenir compte de leurs résultats sur la piste. Certains, comme le constructeur Jean Rondeau, en 1980, sont rentrés dans l'histoire pour s'être imposés au nez et à la barbe du coriace Jacky Ickx. Toujours fair-play, le Belge évoque lui-même cette inattendue revers en guise de préface à cet ouvrage édité par Le Mans Racing. D'autres, pour avoir frôlé l'exploit comme François Migault, 3 fois sur le podium ou Yves Courage, passé tout près de la réussite surpême en 1995 avec le tandem Andretti-Wollek, méritaient tout autant que l'on s'attarde sur leur opiniâtreté. Et on ne peut qu'être fier de saluer le record féminin de participations de Charlotte Verney (dix éditions) qui tient toujours ou encore de (re)découvrir que Fernand Tavano fut pilote d'usine Ferrari en 1961.


L'auteur, pour chacun des 24 chapitres, a tenu à soigner l'iconographie et, grâce à la complicité de nombreux photographes, découvert de savoureux documents inédits.
